With eclipse glasses.
This week saw a solar eclipse race across the surface of the Earth, from the high Arctic past the British Isles and the Atlantic coast of France and then right through the Iberian Peninsula. But that meant here on the East Coast of North America we could observe a sliver of the Sun eclipsed by the Moon.
Here in Philadelphia, we only had 7% coverage, or a teeny tiny bit of the Sun blocked by the Moon. But I went up to my building’s roof deck for lunch, brought my eclipse glasses, a sketchbook, and some pencils, and decided to try and draw my observations. And here we go.

I probably over drew the Moon in these, but through the eclipse glasses it is difficult to see anything else to give your mind a bearing, especially as the Sun glides along its arc in the sky. But at the maximum eclipse, I did try my best to capture the width of the slice relative to the diameter of the Sun.
Again, keep in mind, I am staring directly at the Sun.
Anyways, hopefully if you were at all in the path of the eclipse, even a meagre 7% of it, you were able to take in something truly, truly fantastic.
Happy Friday, all.
